Mrs. Jill's Uber-Yummy Minorcan Clam Chowder

2 lbs. onions, chopped
2 (28 oz) cans tomatoes
1 to 5 datil peppers (2 is pretty spicy)
6 - 10 garlic cloves
2 lbs. cubed potatoes
8 C. chicken broth
thyme, salt, & pepper to taste
1 qt. chopped clams
- Cook onion in skillet with olive oil until brown. Add tomatoes, datils, and garlic. Reduce heat. Cook into a paste. Boil potatoes in chicken broth for 15 minutes. Add vegetables to potatoes and broth and cook for 30 minutes. Add drained clams and cook for 30 minutes more.
